The Chessboard
The Chessboard is the default view under the Projects Tab. It shows all the current Planned, Active and On-Hold Projects that you have in your EmployPlan instance.
Each project is collapsible or expandable to manage the complexity of the screen. To collapse or expand all, click the "Collapse All" button located at the upper right of the chessboard:
Alternatively, you can collapse or expand each project by clicking on the caret to the right of each project title.
What is the Chessboard used for?
The Chessboard displays all active, planned, and on-hold projects in a grid, showing allocated resources and unfilled roles. It contains all the individual roles for each project and, if a resource has been assigned, information about the resource and their fit to the project role. From each profession card, you can easily see alternatives, assign training or mentors to close gaps and assess economic impacts of different resources on your projects.
As a general practice, it is recommended that you make changes to projects on the chessboard by working with projects in the planning stage and then moving to active; active projects are synchronized periodically with your timecard and task systems, so to prevent "what if" planning from creating changes to active projects it is recommended that you move them to 'planning' while modeling changes to staffing on projects.
Using the Chessboard in collaborative meetings enables effective discussions among managers, resource managers, financial managers, and learning managers. This facilitates making informed trade-offs and ensuring the best fit for resources and outcomes across the business. Let's walk through the key features of the chessboard.
