User Onboarding and Assessment
Overview
EmployPlan utilizes a skill-based assessment approach for onboarding and evaluating users. Rather than relying solely on job titles, the system focuses on matching individuals based on their demonstrated competencies and skills to appropriate roles. This enables greater flexibility in resource allocation and ensures that users are assigned to projects that align with their actual capabilities.
Getting Started
When a new user is onboarded into the system, they begin with an initial skills assessment.
Skill Assessment Process
The skill assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of a user's competencies across various domains relevant to their profession. This assessment helps determine not only what roles the user can fill but also at what competency level they can operate.
Assessment Components
The assessment evaluates users on several dimensions to come to an assessment on the level of competency the user has for the related skills that were discovered in their data artifacts and resume. From this assessment, we finalize the levels we detected for the user. The user can override this as a recommendation to their manager and set the final levels after a discussion if they feel it missed any elements.
Profession Mapping
After assessment, users are mapped to profession profiles that align with organizational needs. The profession map illustrates how users are categorized within the organizational structure.
Skill Definition and Role Requirements
Organizations define what constitutes competency in each role by breaking down professions into specific skills and required competency levels. For example:
Backend Developer Requirements
Organizations can customize skill requirements to reflect their technology stack and project needs:
- Programming Languages: C# and Java might both be required for organizations that work with diverse client technologies
- Database Management: Organizations can specify requirements such as:
- EF and SQL Server
- OR Mapping and MongoDB
- PostgreSQL
- Additional Requirements: Development environments, version control systems, security models, etc.
Competency Levels and Role Assignment
For each skill, organizations define the competency level required for different role levels:
- SDE1: Entry-level competency requirements
- SDE2: Intermediate competency requirements
- SDE3: Advanced competency requirements
- SDE4: Expert-level competency requirements
Users are matched to roles based on how their assessed skill levels align with these requirements.
